The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 continues to float on the rumor mill despite the lack of an official announcement. The highly anticipated device was slated to arrive back in Oct. 2016, but much to the dismay of those clamoring for the Surface Pro 4 successor; Microsoft didn't even mention the long-rumored device and unveiled a new Surface Studio and Surface Book i7 at the launch event instead.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date

Some optimistic tech pundits, who never ceased hazarding guesses about the Surface Pro 5 release date, pegged March to be the month of the long-awaited device's official release. The latest buzz surrounding the Surface Pro 5 point at the launch in the fall this year. Meanwhile, CNet's Justin Jaffe believes the Surface Pro 5 is highly unlikely to make an appearance until spring 2017.

Amidst all sorts of speculations about the Surface Pro 5's release date running rampant online, Microsoft has neither confirmed nor debunked any of these rumors. No prizes for guessing, this puzzle adds more fire to the already burning hype surrounding the Surface Pro 5.

It will be hardly surprising if Microsoft is indeed gearing up to launch the new all-in-one tablet this fall. Surface devices aptly represent the company's perception in terms of hardware as this product range makes bridges between conventional devices to build machines that are comparatively adept, suited and appropriate to a developing tech market.

Industry watchers have been indicating that the Pro 5 could hit the store shelves in Oct. 2017. However, this does not coincide with previous reports that indicated users will be able to get their hands on the new gadget as early as March. But regrettably, that didn't come to fruition and now, there's hearsay that the Pro 5 could arrive later in 2017.

The rumor primarily stems from the looming launch of Microsoft's next major Windows Creator's Update. The patch will only roll out during this fall and this would make the yearly Windows Event in October the perfect platform for Microsoft to unveil new devices which could show off the tech firm's contemporary software adjustments.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specifications

The Surface Pro 5 is expected to pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 635 chip, under the hood. While multiple sources hint at Intel's Kaby Lake chips that will be firing up the new gadget, there is a possibility that Microsoft may oust Intel's latest chips in favor of Snapdragon 635 processor citing the battery drainage over the 7th gen Intel Core chips, and conceivably the inclusion of LTE for mobile connectivity.

The device could come with 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage capacity. A rechargeable Surface Pen could also be included. Furthermore, the device could pack a robust battery and a USB Type-C support.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 price

The Surface Pro 5 could come bearing a starting price of $899 (£749, AU$1,349), and increase from there based on the configuration and accessories a consumer goes for, according to TechRadar.

Meanwhile, another report from TrustedReviews hinted at a starting price of £700 (about $870) and £1,000 (about $1243). The publication states that many manufacturers including Microsoft are increasing their product pricing in the wake of pound's falling value.
