Facebook continues its drive to provide Snapchat-like features to its different apps with the introduction of Facebook Stories. The company previously debuted its Snapchat-clone feature on Instagram, which basically let users share photos and videos to their friends and followers with a 24-hour limit. Now, that same feature has made its way to the main Facebook app itself.
After having been integrated into Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, Stories has now been rolled out to the main Facebook app. The layout for the new Facebook Stories feature is quite similar to how it's laid out in Instagram. As per GSM Arena, users can now see a strip above their News Feed that shows their friends Facebook Stories.
According to Facebook's official announcement, the new feature will be working the same way as the Stories feature on Instagram. Every photo and video that is shared will disappear after 24 hours. Users, however, can opt to share the photo directly onto their Timeline or share it directly to specific friends. Users can also send out replies and view their friend's stories.
As per a report from Tech Crunch, Facebook has also now updated the Facebook Camera to incorporate different augmented reality effects. This is yet again another feature that was originally showcased by the Snapchat app. Users will now be able to add effects such as masks, frames, and other interactive filters in real-time.
The effects can also be applied to photos after they are taken. The real-time effects were originally added to the company's Messenger app, but now users can utilize the same effects directly within the main Facebook app. Thanks to Facebook's numerous brand partnerships, some of the effects and masks are related to popular franchises and upcoming movies, which makes them all the more relevant to currently popular trends. The new features are included in the latest version of the Facebook app for both iOS and Android.
