One of Google's long-time brands is reportedly nearing its end. According to sources, the company will finally be saying goodbye to Nexus smartphones.
Since last year, reports of the Nexus 6P not getting any updates have hit several online forums. Interestingly, some users have deduced that Google might be planning to drop the unit.
For the most part, many owners shrugged off the alleged rumor until October 2016. Surprisingly, Google announced a recall of all Nexus products in the beer month to give way to the new Pixel.
The announcement confirmed what many have been thinking for a long time; the end of the Nexus brand. Although there are still a large number of Nexus owners around the world, the 6P will be its last variant.
Luckily, despite the bad news, Google has been kind to roll out Android updates for the Nexus 5X and 6P. Unfortunately, the most recent update did not include the new Google Assistant for the 6P. Curiously, the Pixel's positive reception might have fueled the Nexus brand's demise.
After its successful launch, the Pixel will be having its next successor. Google is reportedly prepping up the Pixel 2, and to do that, the company needs to clean up its catalog.
In preparation for the Pixel 2's launch, a sweep of old Google products will likely happen. Phasing out most of the company's old collaborative smartphones. Sadly, the Nexus is now almost a thing of the past.
In other news, Google Vice President Rick Osterloh has reiterated that Pixel will stay as a premium smartphone. According to Forbes, the VP countered rumors about budget Pixel phones.
Consumers have been clamoring for a cheaper Pixel smartphone. Apparently, it will not be the case for the upcoming Pixel 2. The upcoming smartphone is currently rumored to be a waterproof premium device. It will improve several key features including a better camera and a faster CPU. Stay tuned for updates.
