Nvidia's recently unveiled GeForce GTX 1080 Ti has now cemented the company's dominance in the high-end GPU market. The new product not only boasts performance comparable to that of the company's Titan X flagship but also offers that same performance at a fraction of the price. The GPU currently offers the fastest processor available in the market, which is why it isn't really surprising that it is one of the most sought after products for gamers and enthusiast.
Despite its name, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti isn't really an upgraded 1080 Ti, but more of a rebranded Titan X, as per Digit. This is because the 1080 Ti and the 2016 Titan X basically use the same GP102 architecture. However, instead of having 12 GB of GDDR5X of memory capacity, the 1080 Ti has an odd 11 GB of memory.
The 1080 Ti uses the same 16nm FinFET Lithography process as the Titan X, which translates to 12 billion transistors and 3,854 CUDA cores. To compensate for the lower memory capacity, the 1080 Ti does have slightly higher clock speeds compared to the Titan X. It gets a base clock of 1,480 MHz and a 1,582 MHz boost clock, up from 1,417 MHz and 1,531 MHz from the Titan X.
Several 4K and gaming benchmarks have proven that the 1080 Ti can perform better, or equal to, the Titan X within numerous games and applications. The 1080 Ti also has a lot of leeways when it comes to overclocking. Several Add-in Card (AIC) manufacturers have taken advantage of this and have recently unveiled their own custom models for the 1080 Ti.
As per Blasting News, MSI is the first one to release a custom GPU based on the Founder's Edition 1080 Ti. The new MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Armor 11G raises the base and boost clock of the standard card, which translates to an overall better performance. Other manufacturers such as Asus, GigaByte, and Inno3D have also recently unveiled their custom cards.
