Rumors are rife about Microsoft deviating from its usual pattern with its Surface Book 2 as multiple sources suggest the company may take a step back and offer the highly anticipated device as a regular laptop rather than launching it as a 2-in-1 device.
Users could detach the original Surface Book from its keyboard transforming it into a powerful tablet -- a feature that was very well received by some gadget freaks. Others, however, weren't really bent on taking advantage of the Surface Book's ability to switch into a tablet. Apparently, the Redmond-based tech titan has more than one reason to oust the convertible design in favor of a more traditional clamshell laptop one, according to Droid Report.
The original Surface Book failed to sweep some users off their feet thanks to the device's problem-plagued hinge, which many said left an unattractive gap letting dust into the laptop's screen. The hinge continues to remain a major drawback for the laptop and problems are likely to arise from its extended usage as MS Power User reports.
If Microsoft embraces the conventional laptop design, consumers looking to get their hands on the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be shelling out comparatively less money. In other words, the Surface Book 2 will be priced considerably lower than the original Surface Book. Aside from that, getting rid of the device's controversy-plagued hinge will boost its durableness on the whole.
But that's not all. If the popular software maker decides to revert to the standard laptop form factor, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 may finally be treated as a power laptop capable of taking on the likes of Lenovo's Yoga line and Dell XPS laptops. Moreover, the savings made by reverting to the laptop form factor can be used to pack robust hardware into the Surface Book 2.
More details about the Surface Book 2 are expected to surface online sooner rather than later. Watch this space for more Microsoft Surface Book 2 related news and updates!
