"The Walking Dead" season 7's second half has been about Rick trying to convince other groups to join force with him to fight against Negan and his group the Saviors and the latest group that he had managed to convince are the Scavengers. It can be recalled that in the previous episode, he was pushed by Jadis, the Scavengers leader to the death pit where a modified walker was waiting and that was the challenge that made Jadis agreed to fight the Saviors.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 episode 11 has shown a well thought-out hour that shuttled between Dwight and Eugene's parallel stories although they didn't meet up at least until the final scene. It was about the two men seriously committing to the Saviors but they have widely spent it misleading the Sanctuary and actively deceiving certain member - Dwight doing it to the luckless Dr. Carson while Eugene to the wives.
According to the New York Times, "The Walking Dead" season 7 episode 11 director Kari Scogland succeed in emphasizing the concealed reactions of Dwight and Negan with a lot of shots revealing their expressions including Dwight's looks of anguish and Eugene's smirks that the Saviors are unable to see. Those expressions actually made all fans believe that the two men are just faking what they both have agreed that they are Negan.
"We are Negan," Eugene said, which Dwight responded with a short "Yeah." Nonetheless, this could be something to trick fans to make them believe that Eugene had embraced his being a real coward and Dwight being a puppet.
According to the Verge, when the series' ratings had dropped 40 percent because of the poor handling of the big villain as well as the unnecessary and gruesome violence, showrunners are starting to keep up with the pace upon the second half of season 7. The Walking Dead" season 7 episode 11 titled ‘Hostiles and Calamities' has brought fans back to the Saviors, the Sanctuary and of course, Negan, but one could argue that if the case would be the same, nobody would bother watching.
