Still riding high on the success of "Kingdom Hearts 2," Square Enix is already teasing the title's long-rumored sequel dubbed, "Kingdom Hearts 3" with a new screenshot.

Despite keeping its lips tight regarding "KH 3's" release date, the game developer is leaving no stone unturned in the bid to keep the hype surrounding its upcoming RPG alive. Avid gamers have been restlessly waiting for Square Enix to divulge more details about "Kingdom Hearts 3" and much to their delight Square Enix finally answered their prayers at MAGIC (Monaco Anime Game International Conference ) 2017.

The studio unveiled a screenshot giving "KH 3" fans a brief glimpse of the title's lead character Sora transforming his keyblade into a shield, Gematsu reported. Apparently, Sora is using the newfangled shield while squaring off against a new Heartless in Thebes, which is a setting from the movie "Hercules," game director Tetsuya Nomura told Gameblog.fr (via ChristianToday).

Aside from transforming the keyblade into a shield, Nomura claims, Sora can do a slew of other things as well. For instance, he can remodel the keyblade into a chariot. The ability to do this is dubbed as "power form." Although Nomura spoke of several other forms, the Hercules-themed shield and the aforesaid chariot transformation are the only forms fans were given a chance to peek into -- of course, in addition to the regular keyblade form. In case the keyblade transformation fails to excite "Kingdom Hearts" fans, the new types of Heartless are expected to sweep them off their feet, without an iota of doubt.

'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Date

Despite stirring conversations among the series' huge fanbase by revealing the new screenshot, Square Enix has refrained from divulging more details about "Kingdom Hearts 3" release date. But this did not put a lid on the rumor mill, which currently is pointing to a March 2018 release.

Although a few playable zones will be accessible come August, Nomura explained that the development process is quite backbreaking, and the team will need more time in order to ensure that the quality of "Kingdom Hearts 3" is nothing short of top-level.

'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' At MAGIC 2017

In addition to shedding more light on "KH 3," Nomura gave "Final Fantasy" fans a brief glimpse of the highly anticipated remake of "Final Fantasy 7" at the conference. Regrettably, he was unable to feature a video teaser, which he wanted to. Nevertheless, he shared a few screenshots of what looked like Cloud and Barret teaming up against "FFVII" first boss, a Scorpion.

More details are likely to surface online as the titles' release dates draw near. Stay tuned in here for more details and updates!
