Many of us love to play video games. It's our thing, it's what define us and we are not afraid to show it. Unfortunately, not all of us are capable of paying $60 for the latest top-of-the-line video games; this is where the free-to-play PC games come in to fill that empty gamer void.

Free-to-play games are only true on the PC platform. There are quite a few free-to-play titles on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, considering the subscription cost that comes with Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus, those games are not truly classified as true free-to-play games (though that is up for dispute).

The following are our favorite free-to-play PC games. These games will add some fun time to your gaming life.

1916

This is one of the best WWI free-to-play games out there. 1916 puts you into the trenches of the war, then something very unusual happens, Dinosaurs. This game is crazy; there are trenches, dead people lying about, guns, and robotic dinosaurs. Yes, it doesn't get any more messed up than this.

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2, Valve's multiplayer 1st person shooter, is one of the best free-to-play games out there. Recently, Valve added a co-op mode called "Mann vs Machine." This new mode brought new life to the game, along with new players to add to the already robust community.

League of Legends

One does not simply talk about free games without mentioning League of Legends. It is just not possible. This game is addictive, and if you have ever played Defense of the Ancients, then you should know. This game here is the new king of DOTA-like games, and for what it's worth, it's arguably even better than DOTA itself.

Battlefield Heroes

Free-to-play Battlefield games exist? Damn right, they do. Battlefield Heroes is one of the two free-to-play Battlefield games, the other is not worth mentioning since it is so not fun. Battlefield Heroes on the other hand, is a blast to play, and that is due to how silly the whole thing is. The game runs entirely in the browser, but that doesn't mean it will play nice with a weak computer system.

Alien Swarm

This is one of those free-to-play games that never seem to get boring. Alien Swarm is a game where you and three other games can play together with the sole purpose of pumping awesome bullets and lasers into unsuspecting Alien bastards. The fun here is tense and action packed. You will never come across a dull moment with this gem.

Spelunky

Finally, we have Spelunky. This is one of the best free to play platformers on the PC, a game to be taken very seriously despite its easy-to-play look. There is a newer and better looking version of Spelunky. However, it is only available on Xbox Live for the sick price of $15, and because you are so cheap, you'll never buy it. Luckily for you, the original is freely available for download on the PC.
