Hewlett-Packard (HP) unveiled some of its upcoming Windows 8 Ultrabooks and laptops a little over a week ago, and now it is time for the company's new all-in-one PCs. The HP Spectre One, HP Envy 23, HP Envy 20 TouchSmart, and HP Pavilion 20 will all debut this fall, packing features such as multi-touch screens and NFC technology.
At the high end, the HP Spectre One is a powerful all-in-one PC with a stylized design and a non-touch 23.6-inch, 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display, a track pad, and NFC technology dubbed GP TouchZone. The touch screen and built-in optical drive were sacrificed in favor of thinness. At just 11.5mm-thin, the Spectre One is HP's slimmest all-in-one PC. Though Windows 8 was designed to work with touch screens, Microsoft said it will work with non-touch screens as well.
The HP Spectre One includes two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI connector, Ethernet jack, Beats Audio, and a memory card reader. The TouchZone feature, however, is more unique. The base of the unit incorporates a sensor which allows users to log into the Spectre One or transfer files to it simply by swiping an NFC-compatible smartphone or device equipped with an NFC transmitter sticker. HP did not offer many details regarding the traditional PC specifications, but it did mention a 1GB Nvidia GeForce graphics card, "the latest Intel processors," and Condusiv ExpressCache among available options. The Spectre One can also be configured with up to two terabytes of storage and a solid-state drive for faster boot-up times. The high-end all-in-one will launch in November, with a starting price of $1,299.
Meanwhile, the HP Envy 23 and Envy 20 TouchSmart sport 23-inch and 20-inch touch screens, respectively, and have more compact designs than the Spectre One. Both come with third-generation Intel processors and can be configured with up to three terabytes of storage and solid-state drives. The Envy 23 starts with a $999 price tag, while the Envy 20 starts at $799. Both machines are scheduled to launch in October.
Lastly, HP also offers a simpler, more affordable option. The HP Pavilion 20 features a 20-inch HD non-touch display, supports up to 2TB of storage, and comes with a choice of Intel or AMD processors. It will make its debut in October as well, with a starting price of $499.
