Tablets have surged in popularity recently, with Google's Nexus 7 and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 leading the way. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 10.1 is also on its way, but the older Galaxy Tab 7.7 is not to be forgotten. With a dual-core processor and a super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was one of the hottest tablets last year, and it still holds its own today, especially as it can now get a taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The powerful Galaxy Tab 7.7 gets the unofficial CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) based Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update courtesy of XDA Developers member Locerra. Before upgrading with the unofficial update, however, keep in mind that the CM10-based ROM is still under development, so it may contain untested bugs or other issues.
Note
The ROM and the instructions are designed for use with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 model numbers GT-P6800, GT-P6810 and SCH-I815 only. It is not compatible with any other devices. Installing the ROM on incompatible devices may cause irreparable damage to the unit. What You Need
First of all, you need any of the three models of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 - GT-P6800, GT-6810, or SCH-I815 - with ClockworkMod recovery installed. Make sure you have a USB cable to connect the tablet to a computer, and download the ROM package for your tablet's model. You can find the CM10 for the I815 package here, the CM10 for the P6800 at this link, and the CM10 for the P6810 here. You will also need to download the GApps (Google Apps) package. In order to avoid interruptions during the ROM installation process, make sure your tablet's battery is at least 75 percent full. To avoid data loss while packing the firmware, back up your apps and important data.
How to Install Jelly Bean Update via CM10
Copy the CM10 ROM and the GApps package to your tablet's SD card without extracting. Turn off the tablet, then press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons together until the screen turns back on. Once the tablet is switched on, release the Power button but continue to press the Volume Up button until the device boots into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Next, click Backup and Restore and select Backup in order to perform a NANDroid backup of your existing ROM. Wait until backup is complete, then select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen. Wait again until the process completes. Select Install ZIP from SD card, then select Choose ZIP from SD card. Browse and locate the ROM package, select it, then confirm the action on the next screen to start installing the ROM on the tablet.
Once the ROM is installed, install the GApps package using the same steps with Wipe data/factory reset and Choose ZIP from SD card. After you have installed GApps as well, select Go Back and choose Reboot system now. Your tablet will reboot into the newly installed ROM. Your Galaxy Tab 7.7 now packs the CyanogenMod 10-based Jelly Bean ROM.
