The “Prey” teaser video that was shown at E3 confirmed that the game is going to be a bit like “Dishonored” and “Dishonored 2.” Arkane Studios injected some elements, such as multiple paths, options for creative puzzle solving, and RPG, which are quite similar to the two aforementioned steampunk-themed games.

Apart from its theme, the trailer also gave a “Groundhog Day”-vibe. What sets it apart from the titular movie, is that the “Prey” player will be a scientist on a space station, and not a weatherman in Punxsutawney.

The main character is named Morgan Yu. Players can choose what gender they want Morgan to have - as well as some other choices that could alter the flow of the “Prey” backstory. The space station, as reviewed by CNET, will be crawling with hostile aliens - each of which pretending to be unsuspicious inanimate objects.

It will be up to the “Prey” players to find out what is going on, where the aliens came from, and how to beat them - all the while fighting to stay alive until the end of the game. To make this objective even more challenging, the people working on the space station experimented on genetic modification, which ended up altering some memories.

Moreover, The Verge has reported that “Prey” also boasts of an overarching mystery. Contrary to earlier reports that the game is about its alien infestation, the game’s focus is reportedly on the main character, Morgan Yu. Amidst all the chaos while in outer space, Morgan’s memory cannot be trusted and his or her perception of reality has been twisted. To survive, Morgan will have to rely on the clues that he or she has left for herself.

Players are able to develop their own skills - combat, engineering, and hacking - by collecting cybernetic implants. This is where the RPG side of “Prey” comes into play. Each skill has branching skill trees that permits players to shape their own character as they see fit.
