"Pokemon Go's" latest update has created a whole new avenue of playing field for the huge fanbase of Niantic Labs' hit augmented reality mobile game.

With the advent of the latest "Pokemon Go" update, trainers can now find a slew of special items such as evolution items that can be used to evolve Pokemon. As expected, this also sparked a lot of questions including how rare are the aforesaid items? What are the drop rates of these items and more importantly, where can they be found.

Evolution Items

These items are used to transform specific Generation 1 Pokemon into Generation 2. Evolution Items can either be used with or without candy. In order to help trainers to catch Pokemon, the game developer has also introduced new types of berries -- Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries.

Drop Rates Of Special Items

Although the details about these special items are hard to come by; some recently surfaced reports have shed more light on the drop rates of these items. The evolution items comprise:

Metal Coat: This can be used to evolve Onix into Steelix and Scyther into Scizor.
Dragon Scale: This item comes in handy when evolving Seadra into Kingdra.
King's Rock: It can be used to evolve Poliwhirl into Politoed and Slowbrow into Slowking.
Sun Stone: According to details on Pokemon Go Database, the Sun Stone can be used to evolve Gloom into Bellossom and Sunkern into Sunflora.
Up-Grade: This can be used to transform Porygon into Porygon 2.

Aside from the evolution items, trainers will also get a couple of new berries, Nanab and Pinap. While Nanab can be used to slow the movement of creature making it easier to catch, Pinap dualizes the amount of candy a trainer gets from capturing a Pokemon. It's worth noting that players cannot use more than one berry on a Pokemon when catching it.

How To Get These Special Items

The evolution items, the berries, and rest of the special items are up for grabs at Pokestops. However, the drop rate of evolution items seems comparatively lower than the drop rate of Nanab berries and Pinap berries. Trainers should bear in mind that special items, particularly evolution ones rarely make an appearance, but they should continue visiting Pokestops.

According to one Pokemon trainer on Reddit, smokinapplepie, he did not receive even a single evolution item despite visiting 20 different Pokestops. Another Redditor, CosmicPrankster said that he received 10 new berries but no evolution items even though he visited 50 Pokestops. Nevertheless, there were a few lucky trainers that were able to get hold of an evolution item on the first daily Pokestop spin.

Although details about the exact drop rates are quite scarce, multiple sources are indicating that trainers are more likely to get the new berries than the evolution items from Pokestops. Some trainers; however, claim they are having better luck ferreting out evolution items as soon as they hit their seven-day Pokestop streak.

There are other ways than Pokestops to get special items. Moreover, a few level-up rewards also comprise Pinap and Nanab berries. At the moment, there's no word regarding evolution items coming from other locations.

More and more details are likely to surface online in near future, stay tuned in here to find out drop rates for specific evolution items.
