Apple has a new reality TV show called "Planet of the Apps." The show's premise features real iOS app developers pitching their software to judges that consist of celebrities which then determine the fate of the apps, much like in "American Idol." The show was explained during an interview with Apple internet and services Chief Eddy Cue at Recode's Code Media conference.

According to cnet, the move by Apple of creating such reality TV show follows the footsteps of Amazon and Netflix. It will be a huge amount of exposure from Apple TV viewers and participants will be able to compete for millions of dollars in venture capital from the company Lightspeed Venture Partners, which is the company that propelled Snapchat, Fusion-io and Brocade.

The judges featured celebrities such as Jessica Alba, will.i.am and Gwyneth Paltrow. They will advise developers whether anyone would want to use their apps or not. Instead of making an elevator pitch, developers will be making an escalator pitch for their apps.

The celebrities will then swipe left or right, much like on Tinder, to determine their interest in the app. Viewers may also join by using a certain app that allows them to vote by swiping left or right.

CEO of Propogate Ben Silverman, Apple's production partner on the show, states that, "The moment that you swipe and it goes to the screen, you're reminded that apps, like music, like television, like film, are a dominant part of our cultural landscape. And when you see it you see what screen-enabled storytelling apps are."

The reality TV show will debut exclusively on Apple's music-streaming app, Apple Music in the spring.
