The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim developer Bethesda confirmed that the second wave of downloadable content for the role-playing game is arriving. Called Hearthfire, the theme of the upcoming content seems to be a laid back approach compared to the physically-altering choices in Dawnguard.
The trailer revealing the DLC (below) allows players to place a "permanent mark on the world of Skyrim" by building and maintaining a home. Players need to buy a plot of land to work towards a home, and then will need to use the crafting table and carpenter's workbench to create building blocks for a house from raw materials like wood. Players can build rooms from a kitchen to a greenhouse. An interior workbench also allows rooms to be furnished, with a "large variety of craftable options," and a Fable-esque trophy room is also available.
Outside, players can build a garden, fish hatchery, and a bee apiary, along "with other useful additions".
Stewards can be hired to buy materials, equip houses with furnishings, and provide "several" transportation options from the traditional horse to a horse and carriage. A personal bard is also available in-house.
After the house is built, players can bring in a spouse and adopt children, though with great power comes great responsibility. Players need to care for children while protecting the home from Skeeter invasions or Giants.
The update sounds like the laid-back approach that players often have to discover through user mods. Previously, players bought and/or rented houses. The trailer did not confirm whether built houses can be rented to other citizens of Skyrim.
Mobilenapps.com recently speculated what could be in future DLC content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Mountable dragons are not available, at least not yet.
Hearthfire for The Elder Scrolls V: Sykrim is available September 4 for Xbox 360 at the cost of 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Dawnguard was released in June 2012, bringing the ability to turn into a Vampire Lord.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
