Through the years, the “Dragon Quest” gaming franchise on the DS and the 3DS have been revamped with re-released games. Since its very first instalment, “Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen” in 2007, the series had had five mainline games remade. Its latest project, however, is different.
“Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King,” which was recently released in North America and Europe, is more than a re-design from its predecessor. Although it might have some changes, it has been reviewed by ArsTechnica as, more or less, a straight port of the PlayStation 2 original game.
“Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King” is similar to the game that was launched before it in terms of its battle system and controls. Players are able to battle monsters in a turn-based combat during their travels. The biggest change can be observed in the implementation of Skill Points.
As pointed out in a report, for every time that a party member levels up, that certain player will be given a specific number of Skill Points. How these points are allocated will be up to the player. The distribution can either be focused on mastering a certain weapon, or be well-rounded in a variety of weapons.
Upon release, bonus items were promised to its patrons. According to Siliconera, such bonus in-game items were to be given out to “Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King” gamers over SpotPass. Unfortunately, nothing was distributed, leaving fans disappointed.
Fortunately, roughly a month following its launch, Nintendo has finally broken its silence regarding the delay. As the company wrote on its Twitter account, “A little later than planned, bonus items are being distributed in @DragonQuest VIII via SpotPass.”
An Internet user shared that there was a bug with this download. Gamers who do not get their bonus item will reportedly have to go into their system management and delete the “Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King” special data.
