2017 will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and Apple is expected to make this year extra special with the rumored iPhone 8 anniversary edition. However, if you want to get your hands on this device, you may want to start saving up because the anniversary edition is speculated to cost more than $1,000 according to Mac World.

One of the reasons for the device being so expensive is the use of OLED display, which will cost Apple twice as much compared to using LCD. It will also sport a massive 5.8-inch screen with a virtual home button. Although, the tag price is not as far-fetched as you may think as the iPhone 7 Plus 256 GB variant already costs $969.

The anniversary edition is also rumored to have some form of facial or gesture recognition supported by a laser and infrared sensor that are mounted near the front-facing camera. In 2013, Apple acquired Primesense and their infrared sensor technology as the former recently integrated the facial recognition software in Photos for iOS 10 and MacOS Sierra. Therefore, having the same on the iPhone 8 is highly plausible.

Apple is also speculated to return to using stainless steel chassis for the next iPhone that will be provided by Foxxconn and Jabil, the same manufacturers that supplied for the iPhone 4.

Lastly, speculations suggest that the iPhone 8 will have a curved screen which bends slightly around its edges. Apple is reportedly asking suppliers to create prototypes with curved OLED displays, which will also make the iPhone 8 a bit more expensive.
