Looks like good news for smartphone lovers who have been restlessly waiting for Sony to shed more light on the release date, specs and other details about its upcoming smartphones. New info about one of the upcoming devices in the lauded Xperia X series has finally surfaced online.
The Japanese handset maker is rumored to debut five new devices next month at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona but one of the said devices dubbed the Xperia XA has already been spotted online ahead of its February unveiling.
Last year, the Xperia XA managed to amass some positive feedbacks despite bearing a mid-range status. With that in mind, Sony is planning to take the wraps off the 2017 iteration of the Xperia XA at MWC 2017. YouTube channel TechLover HD posted a video that showcases what looks like a prototype of the new Xperia XA.
If the cosmetic appearance of the 2017 Xperia XA smartphone is anything to go by, the device doesn't seem to have undergone a radical overhaul as far as its form factor is concerned. Those looking to get their hands on bezel-less phones will be disappointed with the new Xperia smartphone as it still retains the large top and bottom bezels.
The prototype showcased in the video footage bears a model number G3121. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Sony will launch the device with this code. Although the leak does not spill the beans about the device's specs and other details, the video title suggests the 2017 Xperia XA will boast a 23MP back camera. This would be a considerable jump from the 13MP primary shooter of the original Xperia XA, International Business Times reported.
Moreover, the device seems to be running on Google's latest OS (operating system) for mobiles, Android 7.0 Nougat and it comes with Jan. 5, 2017 security patch installed. This alludes to a couple of possibilities. Either the prototype is indeed a recent one or it's an old prototype but running on updated software. Furthermore, the Xperia XA came with Android OS v6.0.1 Marshmallow, so it's hardly surprising if the 2017 version of the smartphone arrives running the latest OS.
Following the latest trend that Sony is adapting for its Xperia X range of device this year, the phone displayed in the video seems to flaunt more of a matte color at the back as well as on the sides, Android Headlines reported.
With five new devices in the offing, Sony is expected to take the center stage at this year's MWC on the first day of the trade show. The popular handset maker is likely to only unveil smartphone and tablets at the event since it has already announced a slew of its other products at the recently concluded CES 2017.
