On Wednesday, iFixit posted a set of 15 repair guides for Retina MacBook Pro. Of much-consideration to the repair firm was MacBook's battery. According to iFixit, repairing the battery will cost third-party technicians at least $500, which is more than double of what Apple charge for doing the same job.

According to Treehugger, Apple told its own technicians that the battery is nonreplaceable. In June, when Retina MacBook Pro made debut, folks at iFixit were unable to remove the battery.

"We estimate that third party battery replacements will cost over $500 if technicians follow the safer Apple-suggested procedure and replace the entire upper case assembly along with the battery," iFixit said.

Calling the repair task simply infeasible, iFixit notes down that repairing some components of the laptop will cause permanent damage to other. For instance, the high-resolution display panel will most likely crack if trying to remove it from the aluminum frame for the sake of FaceTime camera replacement.

"Some repairs are simply infeasible. For example, there is no way to replace the trackpad without removing the battery. And while it's possible to remove the battery, chances are high that it will be punctured in the process. Puncturing Lithium-polymer batteries releases noxious fumes and can cause fires. Additionally, removing the LCD glass from the aluminum frame will almost certainly break the glass," iFixit added.

In the recent past, the teardown firm rated Retina MacBook Pro as the least repairable laptop. Processor, RAM and graphics card are patched in the motherboard. According to iFixit, in-built-battery, display and FaceTime camera cannot be repaired by regular means. Storage drive seems to be the only component that can be replaced easily.

In short, if you are looking for a laptop that you can self-repair, MacBook Pro with Retina display probably isn't your choice. However, consumers new to the repair world don't need to worry as Apple will repair the laptop for a noticeably lower cost than what the third-party technicians will ask.
