Selfly is the latest entry to the pocket-sized drone market. It is the latest autonomous flying camera that doubles as a phone case.
Pocket-sized drones like the DJI Mavic Pro seem positioned to be the future of photography. One company, however, is taking things to the next level by slapping a tiny drone inside an iPhone case, says Cult of Mac. Selfly is designed to work with both iPhone and Android devices. It is a 9mmm thick case fastens to the back of your smartphone. You can take the drone out and be ready to fly in seconds.
Selfly is not designed for long distance range, rather as a perfect portable tripod. The team behind Selfly envision the drone used as a floating selfie stick so you can take great pictures with your friends without looking absurd. Selfly can be used to snap 8MP photos or shoot 1080p video.
Selfly records HD video on its RAM and store it as RAW data. Lower quality first pilot view is then sent to the app for controlling Selfly by the user or by video processing. Once satisfied, you can take a high definition image, which is instantaneously transferred to the phone.
It has two optional control modes but the default action is stable hovering just like a tripod. The Fly by Stick option is where you use the control sticks or the phone's gravity sensor in a traditional way. The other option is Fly by Picture, which is a photo-based initiative control.
Selfly's design is unique and can fit on all 4 to 6 inches smartphones through the Universal Flip Cover case. For iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy 7, and Nexus 6 all have a dedicated case. The models are available in black and white.
Selfly comes with autonomous flight modes that enable it to float in one spot, or follow a subject. It is at present in the fundraising period and will hopefully go into full production later this year at a price of $139.
