The friendly neighbor will once again hit the movie screens as a new "Spider-Man" animated film has just been announced by Sony Pictures. The said animated movie is said to be a stand alone film and is not included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

An intriguing twist in the new "Spider-Man" animated film is that it will not be having Peter Parker to sport the Spidey suit but will feature the second person who took the persona of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death, Miles Morales.

Miles Morales is a black Hispanic teenager and has first appeared in the August 2011 published Ultimate Fallout #4. According to reports, the creator of the Miles Morales "Spider-Man", Brian Michael Bendis, got his inspiration from actor Donald Glover and then U.S President Barrack Obama.

The new "Spider-Man" animated film will be written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The new animated movie will be under the co-direction of Peter Ramsey and Bob Persichettie. The tandem of Lord and Miller is known for their off the screen work in "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie". Persichettie is credited for his work in "The Little Prince while would be co-director Ramsey can be remembered with his work in the "Rise of Guardians".

Aside from the would be writers and directors of the new animated film no further details have been released. Though Donald Glover has voiced Miles Morales in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" series, no reports of him voicing Miles Morales has come out.

It can be said that bringing Miles Morales' "Spider-Man" to the big screen is an attempt from Sony to extend the reach of the Marvel Universe to a much diverse audience. The new "Spider-Man" animated film is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2018.
