Year 2016 gave us some of the best movies yet under the Marvel Cinematic Universe blanket, with the highly-anticipated "Captain America: Civil War" and Benedict Cumberbatch's "Doctor Strange" blowing fans' expectations to become box-office hits. "Captain America: Civil War" signaled the official start of MCU's Phase Three. Year 2017 continues this last stretch (so far) of Marvel's long-running epic with three movies due for release this year.
First up is the sequel to the equal-parts action-and-comedy masterpiece "Guardians of the Galaxy." "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2" is set to hit cinemas this May and the trailer alone already shows a lot of promise. Stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana return as Star-Lord and Gamora, alongside the other Guardians; Drax, Rocket, and the adorable Baby Groot. Check out the trailer below to see everyone's favorite bunch of misfits.
Following his appearance in "Captain America: Civil War," we'll be seeing more of Tom Holland as Peter Parker alias Spider-Man as he stars in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" for Marvel Cinematic Universe 2017. As one of the youngest actors ever to play Peter Parker, Holland has already proven he can act the role of clumsy, awkward, but well-intentioned teenage heroes pretty well.
According to Heavy, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is the result of a Sony-Marvel Studios partnership after Sony admitted their "The Amazing Spider-Man" reboot "wasn't going to work." The trailer reveals that Robert Downey Jr. will be popping up as genius billionaire Tony Stark, and it also gives us a glimpse of Spidey's chosen villain for this movie.
Rounding off the list is the third movie under MCU's "Thor" series. "Thor: Ragnarok" explains what the god of thunder and the Hulk have been up to during the events of Civil War. According to SlashFilm, Natalie Portman would be more than happy to reprise her role as love interest Jane Foster, but it doesn't look like the lovely Earth scientist appears in "Thor: Ragnarok."
Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, returning as their respective characters, will be joined by Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. The trailer doesn't give away any more details, but it's certainly worth a laugh. Check it out below.
