The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been the subject of a lot of supposed leaks lately. According to multiple news outlets, the upcoming flagship will have a smart AI assistant, a headset jack, an optical fingerprint sensor, and an S Pen.
The aforementioned features could possibly be showcased in the Galaxy S8, but the S Pen is highly unlikely. As CNET has pointed out, it would not make sense for the Korea-based tech giant to grab a feature that is initially meant for its Galaxy Note line of devices.
Reports that point to the Galaxy S8 getting an S Pen upgrade first came out after a photo of a casing for an alleged Galaxy S8 unit was leaked online. Based on the look of the casing showcased in the image, which was posted on Mobile Fun, it can easily pass off as the Galaxy S8.
Samsung has not given up on its Galaxy Note devices, even after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. A statement form Samsung officials confirmed that there will be, indeed, a Galaxy Note 8 soon, most likely sometime nearing the end of the year. Consumers who previously purchased a Galaxy Note 7 were called back to trade their faulty unit for a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 once launched.
Considering that there will be yet another addition to the company’s Galaxy Note series, adding a stylus - which is what makes a Note a Note - to a Galaxy S8 does not make sense. After all, the S Pen is the Note’s defining feature. To give the Galaxy S8 a stylus will only merge the brand’s “S” and “Note” lines.
There has been no confirmation on any of the previously reported Galaxy S8 specs. However, consumers are expecting Samsung to give away more details at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
