With a plethora of smartphones to choose from, consumers are spoiled for choice and hard-pressed to resist temptation. The lure of gizmos is not going away any time soon; so, get ready to dig deep into your wallet because the new HTC One X+ is on the prowl. The grapevine is abuzz with news that the 1.7GHz quad-core chip-enabled HTC One X+ is heading to T-Mobile and is prepping for a September launch.

Fans will remember that HTC Era 42 rumors had surfaced a few days ago courtesy a leaked T-Mobile roadmap, sans any other information.

According to TMoNews, the impending HTC One X+ (which was incorrectly hypothesized as the HTC Era 42 by many) will be powered by Nvidia's Tegra 3+ quad-core processor, which clocked at 1.7Ghz. Apparently, the "+" symbolizes Nvidia's Tegra 3+ quad-core processor. The current HTC One X version has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which clocks at a comparatively slower 1.5GHz.

Not much has been revealed about the HTC One X+ specs apart from the processor. However, it is expected to sport a 4.6-inch 1280x720-pixel HD display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory, similar to the features of the original HTC One X launched earlier this year on AT&T. The One X+ is expected to have an expandable memory slot as well. The gray or white color options are also expected to remain unchanged.

Currently, the international version of the HTC One sports the same Tegra 3+ chipset; however, the chip was supplanted for all U.S versions of the device.

Earlier this year, much to the chagrin of fans, HTC opted for a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for its line-up of "One" smartphones in the U.S. HTC's decision ended up disappointing many people who had been expecting the much-touted Nvidia processor instead of the Qualcomm one.

Since all major U.S. carriers either have or will eventually have LTE networks, the move to Snapdragon made perfect business sense for HTC as the Qualcomm processor allowed for LTE integration. Currently, Nvidia's chips do not offer integrated LTE support even though the company is said to be working towards the same.

At present, T-Mobile customers may not have 4G LTE; however, if recent rumors are to be believed, T-Mobile will be the first U.S. carrier to offer its customers a quad-core smartphone. T-Mobile may be the last major carrier to offer LTE as it is still transitioning from its HSPA+ 42 network. However, the carrier intends on adding LTE to its network in the near future.

With the HTC One X+ in the anvil, the Taiwanese company has added another feather in its cap. However, how the device will ultimately perform in the saturated smartphone market is another story.
