Bless the leaks that give us constant fodder for speculation and keep the grapevine abuzz! If it wasn't for those unscrupulous leakers where would the gizmo world gather its little nuggets of gadget wisdom? The latest to join the bandwagon is the leaked specs of the Galaxy Note 2, which suggest that the Galaxy S3's reign as the smartphone numero uno may well be short lived.
Rumor mills are on an overdrive once again and suggest that Samsung is all set to release a new Galaxy product on August 15. According to earlier reports, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (a follow-up to its 5.3-inch phablet) was slated for an IFA 2012 launch in Berlin, with August 30 as the rumored launch date of the impending device.
With Samsung sending out e-mail invites for its August 15 event, speculation is rife that the next-gen Galaxy Note 2 will be unveiled for the world at this very event.
Codenamed the GT-N7100, according to recent leaks on the GLBenchmark database, the Galaxy Note 2 is being touted as the next big thing and will even pose a threat to the current dominator - the Galaxy S3, which is also a Samsung offering. The benchmarking results were pulled down from the GLBenchmark website; however, PhoneArena managed to capture the results prior to the removal.
Samsung is being predictably cautious and a spokesperson averred "We cannot confirm details of a product which is not available in the market yet".
The Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch screen and may have a quad-core Exynos processor and the Exynos 4412. The device also packs 1.5GB of RAM, a 12 to 13 megapixel rear camera, and quite possibly, 4G LTE data speeds. Even though the Galaxy Note 2 is likely to use the same Exynos 4 Quad processor as the Galaxy S3, it edges out the S3 by clocking higher at 1.6GHz. Additionally, the Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to be shipped with the latest Android 4.1 OS.
According to the Examiner, "it might go to a Super HD AMOLED display with rgb format, instead of the PenTile screens in the Note and Galaxy S3."
The Galaxy Note 2 is likely to be released in September 2012, giving the Korean giants two robust devices to rout imminent competition from iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, who are waiting in the wings with their much-awaited fall launch. If, as anticipated, the August announcement comes to fruition then Samsung will be able to have production underway. It can capitalize on the pre-holiday fever and hit the shelves by October this year.
Take "Note", with all roads leading to IFA 2012, the August company (pun intended) that phablet fans yearned for will near culmination. The Galaxy Note 2 is all set to take on the gizmo world, sparing no one in its onslaught - the S3 included.
