"The King Of Fighters" (KOF) will apparently be making its way to iOS and Android devices, according to an SNK announcement. The company will be featuring a new MMORPG called "The King of Fighters: World." It will be unveiled in China in summer 2017, followed by a worldwide launch.
SNK's long-running fighting game will try to emulate the success of smartphone game adaptations. "Pokemon Go" and "Super Mario Run" has made considerable profits last year. It's still uncertain if "KOF: World" will share the same success as the mentioned games.
According to Kotaku, the game will be free to play but will charge for items and other upgrades. The development is under SNK and will feature a full 3D engine. It will have a 3D CG map on panoramic view.
Popular "KOF" characters from the past will appear in the game. Kyo Kasunagi, Iori Yagami, and Kim Jae Hoon will likely be part of it.
In a post by Gematsu, players will take part in puzzle-solving and battles. SNK has not released a statement if there will be a PVP option, but the game will likely have one.
The developers have touted that the game will feature a deep and engaging storyline. Players will have a chance to immerse themselves in the world of "KOF."
This is not the first time "KOF" planned to engage in online gaming. Back in the late 2000's, several leaks have indicated development for the "The King of Fighters Online." The game was developed by Unotechnology and the Dec Company.
Despite fan clamor, the developers canceled the game. An open beta service was available for Korea back on April 15, 2003. The beta ended early due to poor reception.
The last news about the "KOF Online" came in 2007 when a Korean company tried to revive the online adaptation. After the announcement, the Korean developer dropped the project due to bad public response.
