Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone or the iPhone 8 will feature an IP68 rating. It will be the highest dust and water resistance rating from the company's flagship unit.

Several sources have indicated that the rating is likely possible. The current information came out from a Korean outlet that had a talk with a reliable source. The iPhone 7 has an IP67 rating and the jump can make the phone the most rugged iPhone yet.

The source spoke to the Korean Herald and noted that the changes would bring a drastic upgrade to the device. Samsung's 2016 flagship phones already sport the IP68 rating. Reports have indicated that the next Note and Galaxy S8 units will also have the same IP68 rating.

An IP68 rating would mean that the phone will be able to withstand 30 minutes of water immersion for a depth of 5 meters. The upcoming iPhone 8 will still need an external waterproof case for the outdoors. The rating is based on static water. Other water conditions found on the beach or a rushing river could render the IP68 rating useless.

In other news, LG's G6 will also be featuring dust and water resistance. According to Forbes, the company is adapting to the current weatherproofing trend that smartphones are having.

However, the company has not yet disclosed whether the phone will have an IP67 or a higher IP68 rating. LG will also be moving on with removable batteries as they would be ditching the concept for the upcoming G6.

Water-proofing has been first by Sony in their Xperia flagships. Reception has been somewhat mixed since most of these phones would still buckle under water pressure. Third party manufacturers have since created weatherproof casings to deal with waterproofing and added ruggedness. Having an IP68 rating is still not indicative that users will have a phone that can survive water for long periods of time.
