The smartwatch industry is in for a major change as Google's operating system for the wearable Android Wear 2.0 is getting its finishing touches. Android Wear 2.0 took a slow twist after its unveiling in May, but it seems that everything is sailing smoothly now.

According to GreenBot, Google emailed several app developers last week to confirm that Android Wear 2.0 has aligned with its original schedule. In fact, Google told its developers to be ready for the opening salvo of Android Wear 2.0 because the target release date in February is very likely to happen.

Google also warned against current apps that are using legacy embedded APK mechanism, which is not optimized for Android Wear 2.0. One problem that Android Wear 2.0 users might face if developers don't take action are apps being incompatible with the built in Play Store, Android Police reported.

According to reports, Google made the in-watch Play Store as a standalone app so that Android Wear 2.0 users can download and install apps without smartphone support. However, the whole Play Store library has to literally start from nothing. This is due to Google's confirmation that the APK mechanism won't work with Android Wear 2.0.

Meanwhile, Google also teases that Android Wear 2.0 is going to integrate Google Assistant. Third-party developers are also jumping into the whole bandwagon and might introduce several additions. Android Wear 2.0 will also support better communication features and Android Pay.

Another Google big bang that fans can expect are new models of smartwatches, which will release alongside Android Wear 2.0. Take for example the likes of Moto 360, Huawei Watch or LG G-series Watch. Let us just keep our fingers crossed that Android Wear 2.0 is going to breathe air into smartwatch industry. After all, a new boost is very much needed after sales in the Smartwatch industry didn't go well last year.
