Viki, an artificial intelligence assistant is allegedly under development to strengthen smartphone giant Nokia. While it is unclear where did Nokia got the name Viki, but suspicions point to 1989 TV character VICI who is a child android.

According to GSM Info, Nokia just requested European Union for trademark protection of Viki and its product description suggests that this software will combine all data sources into a single chat and voice-based interface. Nokia Viki will therefore become the new interface similar to Siri and the likes.

Question now is how will Viki fare in contrast to Apple Siri AI assistant or other support that competitors feature. Microsoft phones have Cortana to rely on while Samsung is said to be working on their own personal assistant too. This Viki-ish Ai is to provide digital assistant service to flagship Samsung Galaxy S8, according to IbTimes.

Come to think of it, Nokia needs to rely on Viki to truly stand out of competitive smartphone market. The industry is too crowded and manufacturers have fast-paced development of unique features to taunt consumers. Viki is Nokia's much-needed boost to catapult back in its days of dominance.

Meanwhile, Nokia-licensee HMD Global have recently launched its first Nokia phone powered by Android Nougat. It is unclear though if this new unit called Nokia 6 will already sport Viki. At any rate, Nokia 6 Android version will sell for $245 in China with or without Viki.

Nokia 6 unleashed with 1.1GHz eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with sturdy 4GB of memory. This beaut have massive 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded further up to 128GB. Nokia 6 is no shy either on its camera as 16-megapixel rear camera can take crystal clear shots. For selfie lovers, Nokia 6 sports 8MP front camera.
