Yes, you read that right. "Deadpool" is apparently campaigning for an Oscar nomination, according to a report by WhatsTrending. As crazy as it may sound, it is quite possible for the superhero to get an Oscar nod, as it just recently got nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Here's some of the prestige the movie has been receiving recently.
Ryan Reynolds, the actor who played Deadpool, was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globes. From the Writer's Guild, the movie was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. "Deadpool" was also nominated for Best Comedy from the Phoenix Critics Circle. Most of all, it edged out Martin Scorses's "Silence" in the nominations for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the Producer's Guild of America.
So, how is it possible for "Deadpool" to get an Oscar nomination, as well? That is because the people who are voting for the Academy Awards are the same people who voted for the guilds that were mentioned above.
However, getting nominated for Hollywood's most sought-after trophy is one thing; actually winning the award is another, according to The Verge. The Oscar lineup this year is tough, as the possible nominees could be "Moonlight," "Fences," "Manchester by the Sea" and "La La Land." If "Deadpool" is looking for an upset, it must beat all those masterfully crafted films, although getting nominated is already a win by itself.
It is important to note that the superhero movie "The Dark Knight" received eight Oscar nominations at the 81st Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor, Best Sound Editing and Best Cinematography. However, it was not nominated for Best Picture.
