Fans of "The Witch and the Hundred Knight" were ecstatic when Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) released the trailer for "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2." However, it appears that the upcoming title from NIS is a sequel only in name because it will feature a different story, setting, and characters.
According to Siliconera, the trailer for "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2" features new characters and showcases "new and improved gameplay." The game's protagonist Milm, voiced by Megumi Han, is introduced in the video.
It is revealed that she is a girl who is infected with the "Witch's Disease." Her symptoms include a third eye on her forehead. Because the surgery to cure her has failed, Milm turns into a witch.
Next is Chelka, also voiced by Han, who is the revealed to be Milm's witch form. Chelka has "tremendous power" and does as she pleases, regardless of the consequences. However, because of her incomplete awakening as a witch, she will sometimes turn into Milm.
The video also features Amalie, voiced by Sachika Misawa, Milm's older sister. Amalie is part of an anti-witch group called Weisritter (WR). Once Milm contracts the Witch's Disease, Amalie defects from WR to protect Milm.
Huninmugin, voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda, was originally a crow that Milm befriended. He is magically transformed into a witch's familiar thanks to Chelka's power. He also works as a butler and his duties include housework.
The video also showed Cavalry the Knight, who is voiced by Kaoru Mizuhara. Another report by Gematsu revealed that he is a "Magic Being" (Manania) that is the player's avatar in "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2." Cavalry can't speak, but he can understand words and he is only capable of "simple mutual understandings, such as positive and negative."
Other characters also introduced in the trailer include Gabrielle, Lisa, Zophie, Theodor, Isabel, and Prim. The rest of the video showed the sequel's "improved gameplay" which "has been renewed to match its story better."
In the game, players will control Cavalry as they explore a magical world. The action-elements from "The Witch and the Hundred Knight" were streamlined for the sequel to allow players to "enjoy the exhilarating action." "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2" will be released on February 23, 2017 in Japan for the PlayStation 4.
