As a designated "tank" in the hero line-up, D.Va is an "Overwatch" fan favorite for her survavibility and mobility, allowing players to incorporate her into a sort of "harass and disrupt" lifestyle.

But with the recent Overwatch 1.7 patch, D.Va received a pretty huge nerf: her armor's effectiveness has been halved and her primary weapon's damage has been decreased by a point. In response to some major backlash from fans, "Overwatch" principal designer Geoff Goodman has taken to Blizzard's public forum to explain the reason behind the update.

It may be important to note that the Overwatch update gave D.Va buffs in the form of doubled health (200 to 400) and more bullets-per-shot (now shoots 11 bullets from the original eight). However, as mentioned, her armor dropped from 400 to 200 and her damage per bullet was knocked back a peg; damage two from the original three. Attack of the Fanboy puts it succinctly reports D.Va's 1.7 patch update as additional health "at the cost of armor" and markedly improved damage consistency "at the cost of overall power."

D.Va's Nerfs Explained. Goodman's public explanation in the forum wants fans to know that the update doesn't actually change her spread, insisting that her shots "fill in her spread more evenly now." According to his post, they feel D.Va is more consistent now that the adjustments have been made.

He even explains the decreased armor, saying that D.Va is intended to be weaker when placed against fast-firing weapon-wielders like Reaper and Tracer, and finishes by calling the game "healthier" now that heroes have corresponding strengths and weaknesses.

Fans Respond; Still Unhappy. Fans remain unhappy despite the recent explanation, if their comments on Goodman's post was anything to go by. Tech Times reports that players' are no longer sure what D.Va's role in the game is anymore. One user mentions that her newest stats will affect the "jump in and harass" playstyle many have developed for her.

It seems that Overwatch's 1.7 patch still has a way to go before players are fully comfortable with the changes made. Roadhog's recent rebuffs have appeased many players and Sombra's buffs may make her character more playable

No word yet on whether Blizzard plans to address these concerns of "Overwatch" fans for D.Va but based on Goodman's post, they're pretty content with how she is now.
