When "Overwatch" patch 1.7 hit the public test realm, there was a bit of chaos that followed. Many players were unhappy with the serious nerfs done to characters Roadhog, Ana and D.Va. They weren't afraid to speak their mind.
After a bit of biting commentary and a lot of scrambling to sort the constructive feedback from the pure backlash, the latest "Overwatch" update hopes to balance out the changes made-starting with Roadhog's hook.
Principal designer Geoff Goodman posted patch notes on Blizzard's public forum, announcing a new build to the PTR "with some new changes." The most detailed of these notes were the changes done to Roadhog's hook. This was a point of contention for many "Overwatch" fans, as they felt Blizzard had gone overboard with reducing the weapon's effectiveness.
A fan posted a GIF on the "Overwatch" Reddit showing a character easily dodging the hook by hiding behind small bits of cover that barely concealed him (think a potted plant or a slim post) just to prove this point.
According to the Goodman's post, the changes being made to the Roadhog's hook included line of sight checks added to both directions of a potential hook target. He says it should "be easier to hook someone who is sticking halfway out of a doorway."
They also made it so that hooked targets are slowed heavily while stunned, "even if they are in the air." Check out the full post here.
Goodman also mentions changes made to Ana and Sombra. Ana's original nerf cut the healing boost of her biotic grenade by 50%. According to Mic, the actual modification was applied to the buff the grenade provided for other forms of healing.
The actual amount of healing the grenade provides to allies remains unchanged. The post also mentions a further nerf to the biotic grenade, cutting the duration down to four seconds from the original five.
Meanwhile, hacker character Sombra has gotten yet another buff in "Overwatch". The previous patch decreased her hack time from one second to 0.8 seconds. In this newest build, her hack cooldown has been reduced to eight seconds from the original 12, meaning she can hack her way through multiple targets faster.
