To be honest, the Google Nexus 7 tablet isn't a competitor to Apple's iPad, but it is one of the best tablets in the market, especially with the $199 price tag. Nexus 7 is now shipping to customers and some enterprise folks picked up the Nexus 7 tablet and hit the concrete, along with iPad in hand, to find out which tablet is tougher.
Folks at SquareTrade - a third-party warranty service provider - conducted its traditional drop test with the Nexus 7 tablet facing Apple iPad. The two tablets were put to test in three challenges - two drop tests and one water test. In the water test, the company dropped both the devices from hands while standing, the tablets rolled down from a table and submerged in a bath tub for a while.
In the drop test, the two tablets were thrown on a solid concrete ground. In each incident, iPad's screen gets shattered, especially around the corners, while the Nexus 7 stays put and keeps the damages low with only a few scratches on the back.
The Nexus 7 tablet also survived the water test without any known damage. Apple iPad, on the other hand, lost its speaker in the test and was no longer able to play any sound.
The Google's Nexus 7 clearly outperforms the iPad in all three tests. However, we cannot say if it is better than the iPad, but it is surely more rugged, cheaper, and worth its price tag.
