Game developer Square Enix is known for taking their time between sequel releases to their big-name games, and "Kingdom Hearts 3" is no exception. The title was officially declared as "in development" in 2013, making it almost four years now since the announcement. Fan speculation back then placed the early quarter of 2017 as a possible release period but all evidence or lack thereof - is to the contrary.

Curiously enough, there hasn't been much by way of gameplay previews or demos for "Kingdom Hearts 3". Game Rant mentions the tech demo done at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2013, some footage, and some big world reveals, including "Big Hero 6" and "Tangled". Other than that, not a lot has been said about the third instalment of this series.

Final Fantasy 15's release last November 2016 has sparked players' hope yet again. It might not make the fan-imposed 2017 deadline but details are coming out slowly but surely.

There's a possibility that the upcoming "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" will hold some new features that may make it into "Kingdom Hearts 3" and customer characterization is one of those features. Following an interview creator Tetsuya Nomura had with Dengeki PlayStation, Gaming Bolt reports that there is a possibility the feature could be included.

"We have other priorities ahead of us so it depends on time, but we'll look at the reaction with [Kingdom Hearts 0.2] and consider it," Nomura said. The creator was referring to the "Kingdom Hearts short, 0.2 Birth By Sleep" included in "Kingdom Hearts 2.8".

Players will be able to collect decorations and customizations for Aqua, a female protagonist. Whether this feature slips over to "Kingdom Hearts 3" and becomes an option for other characters depends on how well it will be received by players.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is said to be available for PS4 and Xbox One. "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8", on the other hand, will be released later this January 2017 and will be playable exclusively for PS4.
