Nintendo's portable game console, 3DS was released back in 2011 and since then, the company has rolled out a slew of iteration of the consoles. Starting with the unwieldy original 3DS XL, followed by the 2DS, and most recently the New 3DS and New 3DS XL that packs hefty internals under the hood.
Despite 3DS's hemmed in power and age, Nintendo has not ceased rolling out engaging titles for the console. Let's take a look at some of the highly anticipated games for the lauded platform this year.
Pikmin
The classic real-time strategy video game will finally make its way to the 3DS this year. It will be the first time ever the game will be playable on a handheld. However, it does not look exactly what "Pikmin" fans have been clamoring for. In order to pave the way for the game's 3DS entry, Nintendo ousted the classic 3D gameplay in favor of a 2D side-scroller, which is unlikely to propel the game to popularity.
Mario Sports Superstars
The impending Mario sports title for the 3DS features a slew of appealing games in which Mario and various other characters hailing from the Mario universe can participate in. "Mario Sports Superstars" includes several sports such as golf, tennis, soccer, baseball and horse racing, according to Mario Wiki. "Mario Sports Superstars" is slated to hit the store shelves in spring.
Lady Layton
Although "Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy" was the final Layton title that centered on the titular classy gentleman himself, the Layton series is far from over. Katrielle, the professor's daughter will keep the ball rolling for the series. Lady Layton comes to Nintendo 3DS, Android, and iOS devices this year, TechTimes reported.
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World
It is obvious that a few titles would opt to migrate to the 3DS in order to garner cheering from a wider user base amidst the Wii U's immeasurable sales and eventual production halt. This is the exact situation Nintendo's side-scrolling platformer video game, "Yoshi's Woolly World" has been through. Originally slated to arrive on the Wii U, the title has since been migrated to the 3DS and is scheduled to release early next month.
Dragon Quest 8: Journey Of The Cursed King
The role-playing video game is part of the "Dragon Quest" series of games and is slated to arrive for the 3DS this month. The title was originally released for PS2 back in 2004 and then migrated to Android and iOS in 2013. The players will get an opportunity to square off against a slew of monsters in the game that will be set in a massive world. They will also get unique attacks and various skills.
