Game Developers Choice Awards unveiled the 2016 nominees to receive the highest accolade in gaming industry - Game of the Year 2016. While most are looking forward to what 2017 has to offer, developers and guild are retracing the steps of 2016 and dissecting the best of the best there is.

Game of the Year Award forerunner is "Inside" by developer Playdead. Apart from Game of the Year, "Inside" was also nominated for six other categories to include Best Audio, Best Design, Narrative, Visual Arts and Innovation. Come to think of it, "Inside" racked up almost all available nominations available.

Meanwhile, there are two titles that garnered 5 nominations respectively, "Firewatch" and "Overwatch." Another two have claimed 4 nominations and these include "Uncharted: A Thief's End" and "Dishonored 2" from Bethesda's fence. GameSpot provided a complete list of nominees in their respective categories.

Of course, top criterion to be elevated in the Game of the Year 2016 is that games should have released last year. The International Choice Awards Network will then sit as committee choosing the nominees and eventual winners. This body is composed of respectable game creators and developers hailing from all parts of the United States.

Fro those who want to catch the event, Twitch is going to stream on March 1 at 6:30 PM Pacific Time. Serving as the host of Game of the Year 2016 event is Tim Schafer of Double Fine. Consider this as a jam-packed event considering that there are 475,000 plus views already even if the stream isn't live yet.

On the other hand, similar Independent Games Festival Awards is to be held on the same date. While the list of nominees for this parallel recognition is yet to be known, expect the very first day of March to be day of celebration. So, who do you think it is going to be?
