The cast of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will officially be joined by Alexandra Chando. It remains unknown whether she was called in to take Nina Dobrev's place, but multiple news sources have pointed out that the two aforementioned actresses have a resemblance to each other.

Chando first became known for her major role in "The Lying Game," which was a short-lived thriller on ABC. Having to portray the roles of both her own and her twin sister's, the doppelganger plot of "The Vampire Diaries" will not be new to her.

According to TV Line, Chando's role in midseason premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" will be a young doctor who will be tested by the Salvatore brothers. "Stefan and Damon attend an anger management support group looking for their next victim," the episode description read. The brothers will "continue their commitment to Cade as they test the morals of a young doctor, Tara."

In order to be of service to Cade, Stefan and Damon will have to bring him sinners' souls for a period of one year. Since then, the brothers have not been the same. Stefan, specifically, completely shut off his humanity.

"Stefan has never been good with temptation while in ripper mode," executive producer Julie Plec revealed. "We know from past experience that Stefan has a threshold."

That said, it will reportedly be the responsibility of Ian Somerhalder's Damon "to monitor his brother [Stefan] and make sure he stays on the good side." "If he crosses it [bad side of threshold,] there is a risk of losing him forever," Plec confirmed.

It remains unclear precisely what kind of doctor Chando's character will be. However, it has been confirmed that she will be playing a crucial role in the Salvatores' quest for dark souls.

Chando's previous show, "The Lying Game," was cancelled in 2013. Since then, the actress managed to maintain a steady stream of roles in "Outcast," "Caste," and "Hindsight."
