Proof that season for giving is still not over, we welcome the New Year with a sweet package of free games for the Xbox and PlayStation. Microsoft already confirmed the four free titles for Xbox Live Gold members under the Games with Gold program as early as December 2016. They even released one of their titles - "World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap" - for free download even before January 1 rolled around.

Sony, on the other hand, has revealed the six games PlayStation Plus members can get for free starting Tuesday, January 3 this year. The makers have decided to focus on independent titles, or so Inquisitr reports, and have thus included games like "Day of the Tentacle Remastered" for the PS4 and PS Vita, and "Blazerush" for the PS3. It may be a little disheartening to hear that there are no A-lister titles in the free games line-up, but these top indie games promise to be just as exciting as high-profile entertainment.

Other PlayStation Plus titles include "This War of Mine: The Little Ones" for the PS4, "Azkend 2" for the PS Vita, and "Titan Souls" for both PS4 and PS Vita. "The Swindle" is also available for free and is playable on the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

As mentioned, one of Microsoft's titles - free for Xbox Live Gold members - is "World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap," and GameSpot reports that it was made available for download on the Xbox One even before January first. Normally priced at $19.99, this tower defense game is available for free until the 31st of this month.

Other titles for the Xbox One include "Killer Instinct" Season 2, - downloadable from January 16 to February 15 - and "Outlast" - free until January 15. Xbox 360 players get two great titles; "The Cave", which members can download for no cost between now and January 15, and the classic "Rayman Origins," which goes free on January 16 up until January 31.
