Ryan Gosling signed on to the lead role of the upcoming Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man," to be directed by Damien Chazelle, director of "La La Land," according to a report by The Verge.

This will be the second collaboration by Gosling and Chazelle, after teaming up in the critically-acclaimed musical "La La Land," which is a romantic musical movie about a musician falling in love with an aspiring actress played by Emma Stone.

"First Man" will be based on Armstrong's biography, "First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong," but will only follow the events between 1961 to 1969. The book was published by NASA historian James Hansen in 2005.

Clint Eastwood was set to produce and direct when he and Warner Bros. bought the film rights to the book in 2003. The project did not materialize until Chazelle was to take over as the new director in 2014. Chazelle's debut film was the movie "Whiplash."

According to a report by Screen Crush, "First Man" will also be based by the screen play Josh Singer. It will follow the astronaut's life and will explore NASA's mission to put the first man on the moon. The film is described as intuitive, first-person account of the most dangerous space mission in history.

The film reportedly will start filming in early 2017. While fans of Ryan Gosling wait for the film to be finished, they may want to watch his latest film "Blade Runner 2049" opposite Harrison Ford, scheduled to be released in October 2017.
