Die-hard fans of the original 1982 Blade Runner, a neo-noir science fiction film, will have new reasons to rejoice as the very first footage of its long-awaited sequel has finally been released. The upcoming sequel, entitled Blade Runner 2049, will showcase the original Blade Runner, Harrison Ford --- reprising his role alongside the movie's new protagonist, LAPD Officer K, played by Ryan Gosling.
The recent teaser trailer gives fans their first look on the world of Blade Runner, as generated by the latest in cinematography techniques. The environment seems to stay very loyal to the world portrayed in the original 1982 movie --- complete with dark alleys, search lights, and hazy abandoned environments.
Apart from the setting, fans will also get their first look on Gosling's Blade Runner attire as he encounters Ford's older Rick Deckard. The movie has been revealed to take place approximately 30 years after the original movie's events, where Gosling's character uncovers an incredible secret that could threaten the existence of what's left of modern society. Officer K then sets off to find the former LAPD Blade Runner, Deckard, who has apparently been missing for the last 30 years.
The film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, who directed the recent science fiction film, "Arrival". He will be accompanied by Ridley Scott, who will be on board as executive producer. The film will also adapt the original film's concepts, which was also based on Philip K. Dick's novel, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
The footage in the teaser trailer doesn't really show that much and not one replicant has been spotted yet, but it did manage to create excitement for the new film --- most especially, for fans of the original movie. The film will star Gosling and Ford along with Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Lennie James, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, and Dave Bautista. Blade Runner 2049 is scheduled to be released on Oct. 6, 2017.
