"Hero's Song" has been withdrawn from the market barely two months after it was launched. The game was supposed to be Pixelmage's first RPG game but it failed to meet the expected sales to go on.
The company also shut down its office after the game was dropped. This means, the game was totally pulled out from Early Access and Pixelmage will no longer fully operate.
John Smedley founded Pixelmage and he was the lead of the developing team. He previously worked as of Sony Online Entertainment/Daybreak Games. It is clear that this time, he failed to secure a big audience for his own studio's game.
The cancellation of the game was announced by on Pixelmage website. The team explained why they had to cancel the game and issued notice about refunds as well.
"It's with a heavy heart that I have to report that Pixelmage Games is going to be shutting down and we have ceased development on Hero's Song," the team said in the statement. "Unfortunately sales fell short of what we needed to continue development."
Smedley added that they really value their customers since day one. Thus, they are offering 100 percent refunds to everyone who purchased the game.
On Dec. 27, John Smedley also tweeted that what happened broke his heart. He said that he was saddened by the fact that they had to do this but there was no choice.
Meanwhile, gamers who bought "Hero's Song" can ask for refunds on where they got their copy. Those who got it via Steam were advised to make a request and their money will be returned according to Steam's refund policy.
On the other hand, people who got the game through Indiegogo can simply write an email to Pixelmage. The team will immediately process their claim and send their money back.
"Hero's Song" is an open world RPG game where players can journey to be a god among men. Players can create their own worlds and set it up with quests and other things that will turn it into something like the ancient land where gods once walked through.
