"The Last of Us 2" trailer was released in early December, which revealed a couple of details about what can be expected from the sequel to the game. While Naughty Dog has yet to release the official plot for the game, an emerging theory suggests that Ellie's revenge may have something to do with the Fireflies and Joel's (possible) death.

The trailer for "The Last of Us: Part 2" was enough to generate a multitude of fan theories about the plot for the sequel to the popular video game. As Forbes notes in its report, the trailer for the PlayStation game featured an older version of Ellie, as she mumbles something about getting revenge.

Joel shows up and asks Ellie about the bloody body on the ground. Many fans noted that in the "TLOU 2" trailer, Ellie seems to have grown up and matured while Joel stayed the same.

This led to speculations that Ellie's revenge may have something to do with Joel's death. There are also theories that Ellie is the main protagonist in "The Last of Us" sequel and she will be getting revenge on the Fireflies.

The symbol of the Fireflies was seen in the "The Last of Us 2" trailer and this could mean that the Fireflies were responsible for Joel's death. In a discussion on Reddit, several fans also tried to analyze Joel's words while holding Ellie in his arms.

Some fans believed that Joel was telling Ellie in "The Last of Us: Part II" scene that he will never leave her again. Others, however, thought that Joel was reassuring her that he will not let anyone hurt her after that.

Fans are also awaiting news regarding "The Last of Us 2" release date. Naughty Dog revealed that the sequel to the game was still in early development, which means that it could still take years before the sequel will be released in the market.
