Google has been taking a while to release the Android 7.1 Update for the Google Nexus 6. This might be because they are too focused on the new Pixel device. If you are a Nexus 6 user, worry no more because your long wait is over.
CyanogenMod has launched CM14.1 that contains Android 7.1 update for Google Nexus 6. If you are interested, you can install the update by yourself with the following steps below.
Reminders. Before installing the Android 7.1 update in your phone, here are several reminders to keep in mind from Nseavoice and Indianexpress
- Backup you data. It is important to backup your data to avoid losing important files, videos and images. You can save your backup files to Google Drive or on a computer.
- Install USB drivers for Nexus 6 on your computer.
- Enable the USB debugging option. Press Menu > Settings > Applications Navigate and tap on Developer Options to ensure that USB Debugging is enabled
- Root your Nexus 6.
- Install TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP recovery)
- Keep your device 70% charged.
Installation. The following are the steps from nseavoice.com to guide you in updating your device to Android 7.1:
- Connect device to PC using USB cable and copy the downloaded files to the SD card of your device.
- Disconnect device and turn it off.
- Boot your Nexus 6 into the recovery mode. Press and hold Volume Up, Home and the Power buttons simultaneously. Use Volume keys to highlight and Power button to select.
- Go to wipe data/factory reset and confirm the operation. Also, wipe cache partition and go for wipe dalvik cache to clean it up too.
- Select install zip from SD card and then choose zip from SD card. Locate the CM14.1 Android 7.1 Nougat zip file and confirm its installation.
- After installing the CM14.1 ROM successfully, repeat the fifth step to install the GApps package.
- After installing the GApps package, go back to main recovery menu and select reboot system now.
