With the Sims 4 underperforming in the market plus the increasing popularity of virtual reality, Electronic Arts (EA) Games is rumored to include both VR and 360-degree technologies on their next franchise, The Sims 5, which is set to be released in 2017.

Gamenguide reports that it will be an all-new experience and very exciting for The Sims' fans. Ever since the first game released in 2002 up to The Sims 4 released in 2014, players only get to have a third-person perspective of the game. With VR technology on the rise, players will be able to fully experience the game and live their in-game life through the eyes of their characters --- a first-person perspective.

In another report, EA Games just released a downloadable content pack called "City Living" for The Sims 4, regaining its popularity and relevance in the gaming industry. However, this can be deemed crucial for the fate of The Sims 5. Still, relevance may not be enough, according to the same report. Whatever profit and revenue The Sims 4 has generated, it will become the deciding factor for the The Sims 5's development. An insider from EA Games also stated that including VR and 360-degree technologies in The Sims 5 will require a huge budget, bigger than what were earlier spent on the first 4 games.

The Sims 5's release date is yet to be confirmed by EA Games, although they have a trend of releasing The Sims games in five-year intervals: 2002, 2004, 2009, and 2014; a 2017 release date may be doubtful, but it is still right on schedule because the creation of a Sims game usually takes three to five years.

Meanwhile, as for the fans and players of the franchise, they can still enjoy The Sims 4: City Living DLC, while waiting for further details about The Sims 5 from EA Games itself --- if the said rumors are true.
