Remember the adage not judging a book by its cover, well, such is no longer the case in the recent battle for tech and gadget supremacy. The recent trend in tech and gadgets seem to be tilted more in favor of aesthetics rather than function.
Gone are the days where new gadgets and tech are judged by their functionality and innovativeness. Today, more and more tech and gadget companies are yielding to the users' clamor for a more visually attractive gadgets rather than offering something new to the table. According to Walt Mossberg, the balance between form and function in gadget and techs seem to have tilted toward the design side. Mossberg pointed out that in favoring the tech and gadget design, top tech companies such as Apple is sacrificing functionality.
The list of the best new tech and gadgets reveal that a key consideration in the tech and gadget review sites in determining the top newest gadgets and tech is its visual appeal. The slick looking IPhone 7 Plus edged its rivals not because it offered more in terms of functionality but because it is better looking than the other top smartphones in the market today.
Another key evidence in the growing trend of design beats function is the changes introduced by Apple in its new MacBook. The Apple MacBook achieved a thinner look at the expense of functionality. To come up with a thinner MacBook, Apple removed all but one port excluding the headphone jack. But with the introduction of the wireless headphones by Apple, it is not far-fetched to think that the headphone jack in the MacBook will also be removed.
The beauty trumps function trend is not only confined in Apple devices. Recent Samsung phones and tablets have also adopted this trend as evidenced by its Samsung Note 7. The visual appeal of the Note 7 may be undeniable but its design may have pushed the limits of the Lithium -ion batteries causing it to catch fire.
