Frontier Developments' space adventure simulation game "Elite Dangerous" will be making its way to the Playstation 4 next year.

As announced on the Playstation Blog, the full game will be released on Sony's console, including the "Horizons" expansion, which was brought to the Xbox One earlier this year.

"It's great to come to PlayStation," Frontier Developments CEO David Braben said. "When 'Elite Dangerous arrives on PS4 next year, we're bringing the full game with everything in our Horizons season of expansions included."

"So not only can you fly your ship, but you can carry an SRV (Surface Recon Vehicle) in your hold, and charge around the surfaces of planets and moons at up to 100mph, finding materials, attacking bases, or seeking out hidden secrets with your friends," Braben continued.

Fans are now wondering whether the jump to Playstation 4 will also mean that "Elite Dangerous" will also be made available for the Playstation VR platform.

"We're making full use of the PS4 and the unique features of PS4 Pro to deliver an experience unlike any other on the console, with features tailored to the DualShock 4," Braben said. "We're looking forward to telling you more about how we're supporting PS4 in the coming months."

Whether or not it will come to PSVR is yet to be revealed., but it will be a great miss for the developer if they are not going to take advantage of the PSVR's capabilities.

"Elite Dangerous" is the fourth game of the "Elite" series, and started as a Kickstarter campaign in 2012, gaining more than 25,000 backers and $2 million funds.

The game was highly rated by game publications, with PC Gamer's Chris Thursten calling it "potentially a classic", and Andy Kelly of Gamesradar describing it as a "welcome return" of the Elite franchise.

"Elite Dangerous" will be launched for Playstation 4 on Q2 2017.
