It's that time of the year again, and most games are gearing up for their respective Christmas events. "Game of the Year" Overwatch is no exception. Here are the most popular speculations about this month's event.
New Specialized Maps, New PVE Event
Last month, players enjoyed Junkrat's special Halloween event, and has proven to be quite popular with players. Because of the positive response to this new feature, it is highly likely that a similar PVE event will be taking place for Christmas.
Introducing a Christmas themed PVE event will be a no-brainer, and fans do have suggestions on who will don Santa's iconic outfit. Of course, Torbjörn is the top choice, and judging from this tweet from two years ago, it looks like Blizzard agrees.
New Christmas Themed Skins, Emotes, Highlight Intros
Just like previous events, "Overwatch" heroes will be getting some sweet new skins for the Holidays, as well as new emotes and highlight intros. According to PC Games N, Torbjörn will be getting all three, and if that does not give a strong hint about Santa Torbjörn, we don't know what would.
Not to be left behind, other "Overwatch" heroes will be getting a Holiday makeover as well. Widowmaker, Reinhardt, Mercy, Symmetra, Reaper, Sombra, Roadhog, D.Va, Ana, Soldier: 76, and Lúcio will get at least one new skin, emote or intro, while Winston, McCree, Mei, Pharah, Zarya, Tracer, and Zenyatta will be getting at least two.
Holiday Loot Boxes
Loot boxes, most likely in the guise of Christmas presents, can probably be purchased using both in-game currency and real money, as well as levelling up, just like during the Halloween event.
The new loot box system, compared to the Summer Games wherein players can't buy loot boxes using in-game cash, is a big hit with players, and as Metabomb pointed out, it is unlikely that Blizzard will revert back to the old scheme.
Release Date and Duration
So when is the update arriving? Most speculate that the Christmas event will start on Dec. 13, exactly 12 days before Christmas, and will last for three weeks, just like the Halloween Event.
UPDATE: Blizzard has just confirmed that the Christmas event will start on Dec. 13.
