Followers of Robert Downey Jr. thought that he would only do "Iron Man 4" if Mel Gibson will direct it. Now that the "Hacksaw Ridge" director seemingly expresses his interest about it, RDJ may no longer buy it as he is set to venture into the world behind the camera.
Hisduntan Times reported that "Iron Man" is set to produce and direct a TV drama called "Singularity." Along with his wife Susan, Downey teams up with Sonar Entertainment to start making the upcoming scripted sci-fi tv series.
Plot details and release date of "Singularity" are yet to be revealed, but many reports speculated that this could happen some time next year. Apparently, this development also brings fear among RDJ fans as it may seem confirming that the actor won't grace "Iron Man 4" anymore, and may concentrate working behind the scenes.
Even though there have been many reports that Robert Downey Jr. confirms not coming back on any planned "Iron Man" standalone film, many fans are still eagerly waiting and hoping that he will be gracing the 4th instalment.
According to Inquistr, "Iron Man 4" is not happening for the reason that Marvel is sceptical to bet on actor's price tag and if it could give a reasonable return from ticket sales. And lesson learned from the 3rd instalment with its "Mandarin twist" and Mickey Rourke's Whiplash, people may not buy on another villain from Iron Man's mythos.
In previous interviews, RDJ, however, said that he would probably reprise his iconic role in "Iron Man 4" if the actor-turned-director Mel Gibson would direct it. And just recently, "Hacksaw Ridge" director, in an interview, seemingly expresses his interest in directing it as he said, "It might be fun. You'd have to figure out a way to be different with that."
With the recent updates and future plans of Marvel and RDJ, "Iron Man 4" with the original lead actor seems unlikely to happen, despite the idea of Mel Gibson under the helm.
