The first episode of "Rick and Morty" Season 3 is apparently subject to another round of delays, despite earlier announcements from its writers.
In a previous report, the show's writers mentioned that the season's story is now complete and they're in the process of animating it, but Reddit user PopDavid, who is the Design Assistant of the show, asserts that several of the information regarding Rick and Morty's schedule is inaccurate.
Reddit user PopDavid disputed some rumors about the show. He mentioned that there will be 14 episodes instead of reportedly having only four and will not be launching simultaneously. Writers are also finished writing only 9 out of 14 episodes the Season 3 storyline despite claims that they have finished on September 28, and there are no schedules for in-house screenings just yet.
He also mentioned that as of this point, there's only one episode that is fully animated, possibly still without voice acting and post-production.
If this post is to be believed, a December release date is very unlikely, and fans would not get new Rick and Morty episodes until 2017. This is far from what Dan Harmon and his writers have reported to media, Inverse says. Furthermore, it conflicts staff writer Dan Guterman's tweet, in which PopDavid claims "not entirely accurate."
There are also no formal announcements from Adult Swim at this time, although a few teaser footage of the show's third season has been released.
As series character Mr. Poopy Butthole said at the end of Season 2 mentioned, the next episode will come exactly one year and a half. This is intended to be an obvious joke from the writers, but it seems to a reasonable estimate. From his statement, fans may expect a March 2017 release, or earlier if production speeds up.
As mentioned by the Reddit thread, the show's unpredictable animation process makes it hard to meet the show's production schedule, but assured that the staff are working hard for its prompt completion.
