The father of the "Castlevania" series Koji Igarashi shared his thoughts about his upcoming game, "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night."

During an interview with Philippine-based publication Rappler at the recently concluded Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit in Manila, Igarashi, or Iga as his fans call him, said that there was a political problem in Japan around the time when "Bloodstained" was developed, and this served as one of the inspirations for the game.

"So there's not really much of a pop cultural reference but at the time that we were developing 'Bloodstained', there was a political problem in Japan," Iga explained. "And when I was thinking of this political problem, there are people that would have an advantage and disadvantage when certain things take place"

"Alchemists will be at a disadvantage when the industrial revolution rose, so that's where the concept comes from," the "Castlevania" creator said. "So I wouldn't say that the references came from pop culture but more of like textbooks [about] the Industrial Revolution."

Iga also said that he thinks that "Bloodstained" is a gamble, considering that he is not making a full-blown "Castlevania" title.

"Over the years, I've been thinking about for this decades and there's this game that I really want to make, but I know it's not going to sell and I know people aren't going to like it, "Iga admitted. "But I always keep imagining this game in my head and maybe if 'Bloodstained' does very well and I receive a lot of money or funds from it. Maybe I might create it but I know it's not going to sell."

Iga also expressed his desire to make a "Bloodstained" installment in the future, according to an interview with The Bitbag. "Very much, we would love to make a sequel for Bloodstained," Igarashi said. "But at the same time, we have to focus on the current game and we have to know if it sells well. At this point we are not sure, but we would like to make one."

"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" is set for a 2018 release.
